Any enthusiastic individual, with or without relevant skills in the specific sport, who is confident in their health condition’s suitability for a competition involving increased physical exertion, can apply for participation.
Those under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or psychotropic substances cannot participate or register for the competition. They are also not permitted to start if there are reasonable suspicions of substance use, as determined by the competition organizers or the judge.
If a person is found to have registered for the competition while using prohibited substances before the start, they will be disqualified.
Equipment:
Participants are allowed to use any unibody boards without a steering mechanism according to the specified board classes:
- Sport class: SUP board length should not exceed 14′ with no width limit.
- Amateur class: SUP board length should not exceed 10’9″, and width should not surpass 30″.
- Team class: SUP board longer than 14′, accommodating 2 – 8 paddlers simultaneously.
The marathon spans from Burtnieku Lake to the Salacas River. The main competition judge introduces participants to the distance and rules before the event.
Participants must precisely follow the order and direction of passing the buoys. Disqualification awaits competitors who go around any of the buoys in the wrong order and/or direction. Buoys will mark the beginning and end of the race distance, with the rest following the course of the Salacas River.
While participants can touch the turning buoys, using them for an advantage (leaning against with an oar, hands, or body, grabbing onto them) is prohibited.
Participants may stop on the riverbank during the competition, but resumption of rowing should occur from the same spot. Continuing the distance on land results in disqualification.
Start and finish procedure:
The start for all distances occurs on the water, crossing an imaginary line between two indicated marks at the judge’s command. The finish, also on water, involves crossing an imaginary line between two marks with a paddle in hand on a SUP board.
The competition’s finish must occur within 24 hours from the start.
