Participants
Participants who have reached the age of 18 on the day of the event can participate in the marathon.
Participants who have reached the age of 16 on the day of the event may participate in the event if their parents are present and have written consent.
Any interested person with or without relevant skills in the specific sport who is confident that their health is suitable for competitions under conditions of increased physical exertion can apply for participation in the competition.
Persons who are under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or psychotropic substances are not registered for participation in the competition and are not allowed to start if the competition organizers or the judge have reasonable suspicions of the use of such substances.
If a person has registered for the competition, but the use of prohibited substances is detected before and/or after the start, this person is disqualified from the competition.
Inventory
Participants may use any single-hull boards without a steering mechanism according to the specified board class:
Sport class – length not exceeding 14’ without width restrictions
Amateur class – length not exceeding 10’9” and not narrower than 30”
Team class – SUP board, the length of which exceeds 14’ and 2-8 paddlers can be on it at the same time
If the size of the SUP board of a participant in the Amateur class does not meet the restrictions set by the Amateur class, the event organizers will re-register the participant in the Sport class. The participant may not be warned about this.
Competitors may use any paddle provided that it has a blade at one end and a handle at the other end.
The distance is Burtnieks Lake (100 km long distance) and the Salaca River.
At the participants’ meeting, the Chief Judge of the competition will introduce the participants to the distance and the rules for its completion.
The participant must strictly follow the order and direction of approaching the buoys. A participant is disqualified if he/she circles any of the buoys in the wrong order and/or direction. The buoys will be placed at the beginning and end of the competition distance. The rest of the distance will be the Salaca River in its flow direction.
A participant may touch the turning buoys, but may not use them to gain an advantage – to lean against the buoy with an oar, hands or body, to catch on the buoy with an oar or hands.
Participants may stop on the river bank during the competition and rest. After stopping on the bank, paddling must be resumed exactly from the same place where the stop occurred. It is not allowed to continue the distance on land, except in places specially designated by the organizer. If the distance is continued on land, the participant will be disqualified.
The Staicele Dam must be crossed on land. The organizers of the event will have marked the route around the dam. In Staicele, participants can use the help of supporters to cross the dam more easily.
Start and finish procedure
The start for all distances is on the water, after the referee’s command, by crossing an imaginary line between two indicated marks. The finish is also on the water, with a paddle in hand on the SUP board, crossing the same imaginary line between two indicated marks.
The finish time for the competition is 24 hours for the 100 km distance, and 12 hours for the 44 km distance from the start.
Evaluation
Individual race:
The competition will be held in Sports and Amateur classes, Open for men and women. There will be a common start for both classes and both groups, one race will be held and according to its results, the 3 fastest participants in each class and each group will be awarded medals and diplomas.
The fastest participants with inflatable SUP boards in the women’s and men’s groups will be awarded separately.
Team race:
Team competitions can consist of 2-8 participants who paddle the entire distance together on one SUP board. Teams are judged in one group regardless of the number of team members.
Safety on water
Each competitor is responsible for their own health and safety on the water.
Each competitor is responsible for providing assistance to other competitors within the event if any competitor has safety or health problems on the water.
Competitors are required to wear a leash; a life jacket or impact vest with buoyancy is recommended, but not mandatory.

In the team discipline, the participation fee must be paid for each participant separately.
If a participant does not arrive at the event or withdraws from participation in it, the participation fee is not refunded. If the event is canceled by its organizers, the participation fee paid by the participants is refunded within a month.
Decisions on issues not stipulated in the regulations are made by the head judge of the competition. If necessary, the organizers inform all participants about these decisions. The main judge also examines and evaluates all claims and complaints. Claims and complaints must be submitted in writing to the main competition judge or the organizers.
The organizers have the right to amend, supplement and clarify the regulations if necessary to ensure the event safety or to clarify the procedure. Participants who have registered for the event are informed about the changes.
